Environmental impact assessment (EIA) represent the environmental preventive manner being executed through development of the Study, that includes consultations with public participation, anticipation and analyses of the alternatives, and elaboration of the measures on prevention, reduction and elimination of the hazard impacts. Preparation of the EIA Study considers description of the baseline characteristics of the location chosen for the project development, anticipation of the harmful impacts of the project on the human life and health, on the flora and fauna, on the environmental media, and on material and cultural goods, along with the mutual impact of all these factors, and finally defines mitigation measures which are not compromising project’s feasibility.
In accordance with the EIA governing legal act – the Law on EIA (Official gazette of RS, No. 135/04 and 36/09), being supported with the Decree that lists the projects for which the EIA is mandatory or may be requested (scoping act), EIA Studies are prepared for the planned and active projects, for the projects that consider changes in technology, for the reconstruction, capacity expansion, cessation of work or removal. National EIA legislation is based on the 1985 European EIA Directive (85/337/EEC) and its three amendments.
